A Message from Our CEO: Connections, Innovation and What's Next

Written by Laura Nee | February 19, 2026

It’s February, and 2026 is already off to a fast start.

Last month, I shared our vision for the year ahead—our commitment to being owner-first, the launch of practical resources for construction professionals, and our new Building Connections podcast. The response has been incredible, and it’s reinforced something I’ve always believed: this industry is hungry for genuine conversation and real connection.

This month, I want to talk about three things that have me energized: the conversations happening in our industry, the technology that’s changing how we work, and the resources we’re bringing you to help you stay ahead.

Building Connections—On and Off the Mic

One of the things I love most about this industry is the people. After nearly three decades of working alongside construction professionals, I’m still energized by the conversations, the problem-solving, and the relationships that make this work meaningful.

That’s why I’m so excited about what’s coming up in March. I’ll be attending CMAA Focus26, the Construction Management Association of America’s conference in Las Vegas, March 8–10. This event brings together some of the sharpest minds in construction and program management—owners, service providers, and industry leaders—to tackle the real challenges we’re all facing. The education sessions this year focus on leadership, strategy, technology, and innovation, and I’m looking forward to the conversations that happen between the sessions just as much as the sessions themselves.

As many of you know, I serve as Vice President on the board of our local CMAA chapter in the Pittsburgh region. It’s volunteer work that I’m deeply passionate about because CMAA represents the professionals who support owners every day—the construction managers, program managers, and consultants who are essential to successful project delivery. Being part of this community keeps me grounded in what’s really happening on the ground.

Speaking of community, I’m thrilled to share that we recently recorded an episode of our Building Connections podcast with none other than Andrea Rutledge, President and CEO of CMAA. Andrea has been a tremendous leader for the construction management profession since becoming CMAA’s first female President and CEO in 2017. Our conversation covered her journey, her vision for the industry, and what she sees ahead for construction management professionals. Stay tuned—this is an episode you won’t want to miss.

We also recently hosted a wonderful local event through our CMAA Three Rivers chapter—Lunch with Pennsylvania’s DGS on February 12th. We had the opportunity to hear from the Pennsylvania Department of General Services presenting as an owner, sharing their perspective on managing capital projects and the challenges they navigate every day. It was a fantastic afternoon of learning, networking, and proof that the best conversations often happen face to face.

The Jobsite Is Changing—And That’s a Good Thing

If you’ve been following construction technology trends—or if you’re attending events like CMAA Focus26 and their companion Future Focus Technology Conference—you’ve probably noticed the same thing I have: we’re at an inflection point.

Robots on jobsites are no longer science fiction. We’re seeing robotics take on tasks that are repetitive, dangerous, or physically demanding—bricklaying, rebar tying, site inspection in hazardous conditions. This isn’t about replacing skilled workers. It’s about freeing them up to do the work that actually requires human judgment, experience, and problem-solving. In an industry that’s facing a persistent labor shortage, that matters.

Drones are transforming progress reporting. Instead of sending someone to walk a site and manually document conditions, drones can capture comprehensive aerial data in a fraction of the time—creating 3D models, tracking earthwork volumes, and giving project teams visual documentation that’s more accurate and more frequent than what was possible even a few years ago. For owners managing portfolios of projects across multiple locations, this kind of visibility is a game-changer.

And then there’s AI. From predictive analytics that help flag potential schedule delays before they happen, to tools that streamline document review and RFI management, artificial intelligence is starting to show up in ways that genuinely make project teams more effective. The CMAA Future Focus Technology Conference is diving into exactly these topics—how AI tools like Microsoft Copilot and modern PMIS platforms are being deployed to improve bidding strategies, streamline workflows, and enhance quality control.

Here’s what I think is most exciting: all of this technology is making it easier to do the thing owners have always needed—real-time visibility across their entire portfolio. When your data is accurate, current, and centralized, you make better decisions. Period.

Resources to Help You Stay Ahead

Speaking of better decisions, we have some great resources coming your way this month.

Upcoming Webinar:
From Information Chaos to Stakeholder Alignment

If you’ve ever felt like managing communication across your capital projects is a full-time job in itself, this one’s for you. Our upcoming webinar, “From Information Chaos to Stakeholder Alignment: Managing Communication & Collaboration Across Your Capital Projects,” will dig into the practical strategies and tools that help owner organizations move from reactive, fragmented communication to proactive, structured collaboration.

This is one of the most common challenges I hear from the owners we work with. Everyone has different systems, different expectations, and different levels of access to information. The result? Hours spent chasing updates, building manual reports, and putting out fires that could have been prevented with better alignment. We’ll show you how to change that.

If the webinar topic resonates with you, I’d also encourage you to check out our latest blog post, The Four Pillars of Portfolio Management Success. After 40 years of working with construction professionals and owners, we’ve identified four foundational pillars that every organization needs to get right: centralized information, stakeholder collaboration, structured processes, and portfolio-level analytics. This post breaks down each pillar and explains how they work together to move your organization from reactive oversight to confident, strategic portfolio management.

Let’s Keep the Conversation Going

Whether I’m on a podcast mic, at a CMAA event, or in a webinar, the thing that drives me is the same: I want to help construction owners do their jobs better. Not with marketing fluff. Not with tools designed for someone else. But with real solutions, real conversations, and a genuine commitment to your success.

If you’re attending CMAA Focus26 in Las Vegas, I’d love to connect in person. If you have a story to share or a challenge you’re working through, I want to hear about it. And if you just want to stay in the loop, keep an eye on your inbox—we’ve got more great content coming your way.

Here’s to building better projects together.
